Hooper [Ibrahim Hooper of the Council on American-Islamic Relations] said that even if anti-Islam hate crime has waned, people who appear Arab or Muslim still are confronted more often than in the past with indignities such as lack of service or tougher scrutiny at airports.

"It's more your everyday, run-of-the-mill discrimination that Muslims are feeling," he said.

For a crime to involve hate, authorities must show a bias by the offender against the victim's race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity or disability. The hate crime numbers are based on reports to the FBI from more than 12,000 state and local law enforcement agencies.

Among other findings in the report:

--As in the past, racial bias accounted for nearly half of the 2002 incidents, with the vast majority of those -- nearly 2,500 -- involving crimes against blacks. Anti-white bias accounted for 719 hate crimes in 2002.

Editor: Unfortunately, all this proves is that the Justice Department and Police Departments around the US do not usually consider 'non-white'-on-white crime a bias crime. 

• The Justice Department's own stats state that 14% of white murder victims were murdered by a non-white while 6% of black murder victims were murdered by a non-black;
• The FBI and the Justice Department categorise Hispanic-on White crime as 'intra-racial', as they are both white.

"The Justice Department remains deeply committed to investigating and prosecuting perpetrators of racial violence and holding them accountable for their actions," said Assistant Attorney General R. Alexander Acosta, who heads the department's Civil Rights Division in Washington.

Oh really?

The 30 March 2005 incident in Brooklyn, New York in which a mob of 20-30 black teens allegedly attacked four white females, shouting “black power,” “white crackers,” and “Martin Luther King.” 

According to witnesses and parents of the victims, four young girls from St. Edmund’s had the day off from school due to Easter recess. They were playing basketball during dismissal from nearby Marine Park Junior High School, when several black Marine Park students demanded to use the court.

After adults intervened and asked them to wait their turn, the teens left - but returned in a pack of up to 30, both boys and girls, and stormed into the park.

Witnesses say the attackers were all black and called their victims “white crackers” during the bloody melee, which raged for almost 20 minutes.

“When I pulled my car up to the park, I witnessed a pandemonium I’ve never seen in my life,” said Debbie, a mother of one victim who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons.

Her daughter ran to the car, screaming, “They’re going to kill us,” Debbie recalled. My daughter was so scared and kids were running around like crazy.

Pursued by dozens of teens, some of the girls were “literally running into traffic to save their lives,” she said.

One girl made it as far as a nearby house, but was dragged by her hair back into the playground by a “wolf pack of children,” Debbie said.

The St. Edmund girls were bleeding and beaten to the point where they had cuts, scrapes, footprints and dirt all over them - and the attackers surrounded her car and started pounding on the windows as Debbie tried to herd the terrified children into her vehicle.

Two girls were hospitalized - one with a broken nose and one with a head injury, according to Edith, the mother of another girl.

“This is not being looked at as a bias crime." said NYPD Deputy Inspector Kevin McGinn.

Although slightly less true now than before, most murders are intraracial: [From 1976 to 2002]

• 86% of white victims were killed by whites ;
• 94% of black victims were killed by blacks .

The 'Information Clearing House' - News You Won't Find on CNN - reports that:

New Orleans adds a new chapter to the Bush digest of calculated bigotry. While the wealthy white families were able to beat a hasty retreat out of doomed city, the poor and black were left to sink in the toxic stew unleashed by America's greatest natural disaster.

No one who saw the televised footage of the Convention center and the Superdome had any misgivings about what they were seeing. America's long-lost companion, racial-hatred, had stuck its ugly head up into the camera lens and was pouring out onto living rooms across the land.

What we all saw last week on national TV was the moral equivalent of the Rodney King beating multiplied times 30,000; that's the number of people locked away in the feces-infected Superdome. It gave us a good look into America's dark-heart, where the evil secret we keep tucked-away in a vault can always be denied; racism.

Abandoning those people during a national tragedy was the most blatant, despicable act of racism I've seen in my 53 years of life. The beating of Rodney King pales by comparison.

Dozens of Brits stranded by the floods endured an even greater terror as New Orleans descended into total anarchy.

Young British holidaymakers MARISA HAIGH and CLAIRE WATKINS were among those who took refuge in the Louisiana Superdome. The terrified girls went through "a living hell" as mob rule swept the stadium.

Marisa, from Guildford, Surrey, said: "White tourists were getting picked on by the locals."

On Thursday, amid fears for their safety, all the white girls were moved to a nearby medical centre.

Marisa said: "We saw bodies coming into from the dome. One person had six or seven stab wounds."

Claire added: "I saw the body of a soldier. The mob had shot him with his own gun." The girls and the other foreign tourists were finally evacuated to Dallas' Holiday Inn in buses.

Another terrified British couple still stranded in New Orleans have sent desperate messages home begging for help.

ADAM FRIEND texted his mum on Thursday. Gill Friend, of Exeter, Devon, revealed: "It said, ‘I'm in the Superdome. There are dead people all around and I have seen people kill each other'."

During seemingly endless days and sleepless nights, the British survivors’ fear of the hurricane’s destructive force was transformed into terror of the other survivors.

Mr Nelson, 21, and Jane Wheeldon, 20, told The Times how they and some 50 other foreigners — many of them British backpackers — were ordered by the US Army to gather together to protect themselves from resentful locals.

“The army told us to stick in a group and for the women to sit in the middle with the men around the outside and to be ready to defend ourselves,” Mr Nelson, from Epsom, Surrey, said. “Their urgency scared us. I sat on the outside, really scared by this point, sitting waiting for God knows what. We waited and waited, I didn’t sleep. A lot of the girls had been groped.”

Miss Wheeldon, from Carmarthen, South Wales, said that being inside the Superdome was terrifying and that she had been sexually harassed.

The “internationals”, as the army labelled the stranded tourists, were among the few white people in the stadium. Marked out by their skin colour and unfamiliar accents, they were verbally abused, while their luggage made them targets for robbery.

British Tourists tell of their Terror in the Rubble  Sunday Times, London: 4 Sept 2005

The girlfriend of one Briton was threatened with rape, and another said people trapped inside were becoming so desperate that one leapt to her death.

Will Nelson, 21, of Epsom, Surrey, sent an e-mail [Editor: Via Cellphone] to his family last Friday pleading for help. “Please can you try and contact the embassy, tell them that we really need their help with getting out of here — it’s turning into a war zone,” he wrote.

Yesterday he said troops in the Superdome had told Britons to use sharp objects such as scissors or tweezers to protect themselves from gangs. “At one point we had to carry a US national guard on a stretcher after he had been shot by looters outside,” he said.

Nelson was among about 40 foreigners escorted from the dome by the army for their safety, amid baying New Orleans residents furious at being left behind. His father, Keith Nelson, said: “I am seriously unimpressed with the American authorities, but not terribly impressed with the help, support and information we have been getting from the British authorities either.”

Nelson and his travelling companion Jennifer Sachs, 21, from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, were evacuated to a hotel in Dallas, Texas, last Friday.

He said British consular staff only agreed to foot the hotel bill after complaints from parents.

Sachs’s father, Bruce, called New Orleans police the day before the hurricane struck, asking what his daughter should do. “I asked, ‘What is your plan?’ The police responded, ‘We have no plan.’ I was stunned. Those words are still ringing in my head. They abandoned the poor, the sick, the disabled, the elderly and most of the tourists.”

Ireland counts Dead & Missing in New Orleans Sunday Times, London: 4 Sept 2005

ONE Irishman is feared dead and another 10 Irish people are unaccounted for in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Conor Lally, 20, Patrick Clarke, 21, and Tomas McLoughlin, all from Blackrock, Co Louth, had gone to Myrtle Beach on J1 visas for the summer. When Katrina swept into New Orleans they sought refuge in the Superdome stadium, but later sent texts home to say they had witnessed rapes, gang warfare and fighting among looters.

“It is every parent’s worst nightmare,”said Jim Lally, Conor’s father. “My son went away as a 20-year-old boy and will probably return with the life experience of a 50-year-old man. This has been the worst week of our life, it was horrendous, but I just got a text from Dermot Ahern to say that the boys will be in Dublin at 8.30 in the morning.

"The boys are in great form...but it has been a harrowing experience and they may need counselling when they get home.”

Newlyweds Jean Wheatfield and Michael Leyden from Dromahair, Leitrim, who went to New Orleans for their honeymoon, were missing for five days before being airlifted to safety by the American military.

Married three weeks ago, their honeymoon was cut short when their hotel in the Latin Quarter was flooded. The couple say they were caught up in gun battles, threatened by gangs, witnessed a massive explosion and tried unsuccessfully to flee on foot.

The New Orleans Superdome was meant to be a hurricane refuge, but those who sought shelter there described a lawless "concentration camp" where two children were reportedly raped and other refugees terrorised by rioters.

One 13-year veteran of the New Orleans police force said he and other officers who had been at the Superdome since Sunday were outraged at what they saw as a lack of preparation that allowed the situation in the covered stadium to deteriorate so badly and so quickly.

"This city knew something like this would happen a long time ago. They did nothing to prepare for this. They just rolled the dice and hoped for the best," said the officer who asked not to be identified.

"People were raped in there. People were killed in there. We had multiple riots," he said, adding there was no way to police the mass of up to 20,000 people suddenly thrown together in such a confined space and such horrific conditions.

Audrey Jordan vented her anger at New Orleans officials, saying they had known for years that a hurricane of Katrina's intensity could cause a breach in the low-lying city's water defences.

"They wanted to pay millions of dollars to rebuild a stadium, but they couldn't even fix the levee," Jordan said.

"We were treated like this was a concentration camp," she said of the Superdome.

"One man couldn't take it. He jumped over the railing and died."

Frightened Japanese, European and American tourists told today how police fired over their heads to end their attempt to leave New Orleans.

Stranded since Hurricane Katrina hit the city on Monday, the 200 tourists were thrown out of their hotel on Thursday morning and said they were confronted by police as they attempted to get to buses to take them to safety.

Turned back to the centre of New Orleans, where looters were still roaming the lawless streets, the tourists huddled together on their suitcases under a pavilion next to the Mississippi River.

The hotel in the French Quarter told the tourists to leave saying their safety could no longer be guaranteed.

The tourists dragged their suitcases through a notoriously dangerous inner city neighbourhood, got drenched in a thunderstorm and were then turned back.

"All of a sudden, police cruisers rushed in with sirens blaring," said Patty Murphy, a 57-year-old saleswoman from Massachusetts. "They were shooting over our heads telling us to go back."

The tourists, one walking on crutches, then trekked back to the relative safety of the Canal Street ferry terminal which faces the police command centre.

At one stage they chartered buses to get them out of town only to be told the vehicles had been commandeered by the National Guard.

"We are tourists we don't know how to get around how to protect ourselves, it is like being in a jungle," said Ryo Gotanda of Japan, who studies in New York.

The worst part, she said, was walking through the tough inner-city neighbourhood. "People were staring at us, waving clubs. I was scared, for the first time in my life I thought I would die," said Gotanda.

AUSTRALIAN survivors of Hurricane Katrina told last night of their dramatic escape from New Orleans and the unfolding civil disaster in city.

The group, joyful at fleeing the nightmare of the Louisiana city, lauded one of its members as a hero. Bud Hopes, of Brisbane, was praised for saving dozens of tourists as the supposed safe haven of the city's Superdome became a hellhole.

From the subtext of this report, it is clear that Mr Hope's genuine concern for people kicked in with a natural tribal instinct to look after 'one's own'.

Realising that foreigners were a target, Mr Hopes and the other Aussies gathered tourists from Europe, South America and elsewhere into one part of the building.

"There were 65 of us, so we were able to look after each other -- especially the girls who were being grabbed and threatened." Mr Hopes said.

He said they had organised escorts for the women when they had gone for food or to the toilet, and rosters to keep guard while others slept.

"We sat through the night just watching each other, not knowing if we would be alive in the morning."

It also looks like Americans aren't the only people that turn to prayer in times of crisis (i.e., there are no atheists in foxholes):

John McNeil, 20, of Brisbane, said the worst point had come after two days when soldiers had told them the power in the dome was failing and there was only 10 minutes worth of gas left.

"I looked at Bud and said, 'That will be the end of us'," Mr McNeil said.

"The gangs . . . knew where we were. If the lights had gone out we would have been in deep trouble. We prayed for a miracle and the lights stayed on."

In a related matter, Professor Ann Althouse, who is white, blogged after she had read about the National Guard rescuing white tourists from the Superdome:

My concern was with whether the National Guard were taking the problems of white people more seriously than those of black people.

Back at the Superdome - far from the ivory towers of Madiscon, Wisconsin - the Australians thank the National Guard for saving their lives:

Mr Hopes said the Australians owed their lives to a National Guard Staff Sgt Garland Ogden, who had broken the rules to get the tourists out of the dome, with 60 people being evacuated to a medical centre.

"We did some shifts at the hospital to help nurse the sick to say thank you. It was a real Aussie thing," he said.

The reality of the danger their son was in hit John MacNeil's parents very hard, but then Professor Althouse didn't have any of her family stuck in the Superdome:

Mrs McNeil broke down when she saw images of her son leaving New Orleans.

"There have been times during this past week when we didn't know if we would see him again," she said.

Mr McNeil said he could see a change in his son.

"They've been traumatised," he said. "I think they've witnessed several atrocities."

Superdome Crime Wave: 6 Murders, 12 Rapes, 1 Suicide.

A doctor who's been tending to the sick and wounded inside the New Orleans Superdome for the last two days described a horrific scene Thursday night. Asked about the level of violence among the 20,000 displaced residents who sought shelter inside the giant stadium, Dr. Charles Burnell told Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren:

"We had three murders last night. We had a total of six rapes last night. We had the day before, I think, there were three or four murders. There were half-a-dozen rapes that night. We had one suicide last night. We had one military policeman shot."

Foreign news outlets attest to the hellish experience:

Those lucky enough to get out told tales of rapes, child molestations, shootings, a man who jumped off the roof and a fire that broke out in the giant sport arena where up to 20,000 people had taken shelter from Hurricane Katrina.

The floors of the stadium were soaked from the rain that seeped in during the storm after part of the roof collapsed, and a pervading stench testifid to the overflowing toilets that had forced people to relieve themselves in hallways and stairwells.

"The odor from that place would knock you off your feet," said Lorraine Banks as she made her way past the dozens of police officers and soldiers trying to keeping order and handing out water in the shopping mall.

"They had bowel movements on the floor this high," the 53-year-old nurse said, as she gestured to her knee.

White Liberals ignore Hate Crimes, worry about Yahoo! photo controversy instead.

White liberals and enraged blacks have been jamming AFP's front desk with emails and phone calls as they complain about the above caption attached to the picture of a white male wading behind an hispanic or native-looking female. [Editor's Note to Kanye West: She isn't white.]

The controversy erupted when Yahoo! News inadvertently placed the image next to an unrelated image in which a black youth wading through water is described as having looted the items.

Jocelyn Nevek at the Associate Press reports:

"The pictures appear to be identical but one individual is "looting" and the other is "finding" needed items!" one person wrote the AP. "This is irresponsible journalism and fuels the attitude that 'all' African-Americans are looters."

On Thursday, Yahoo withdrew the photo of the light-skinned pair at the request of Agence France Presse, which distributes Getty's U.S-produced photos internationally. In a note, Yahoo wrote it "regrets that these photos and captions, viewed together, may have suggested a racial bias on our part.

AFP said it withdrew the photo because it had been flooded with time-consuming phone calls and emails, while already stretched covering the enormous tragedy.

"It's safe to say that it was just causing us a lot of problems," said Bob Pearson, AFP's director of photography in the United States.

The real story?

"When we see people go into businesses and come out with goods, we call it looting," said Santiago Lyon, AP's director of photography. "When we just see them carrying things down the road, we call it carrying items."

Chris Graythen, who says the subjects of his photo were simply picking up items floating by in the dank waters, wrote an emotional plea on a message board at SportShooter.com:

Jeasus, I don't belive how much crap I'm getting from this. First of all, I hope you excuse me, but I'm completely at the end of my rope. You have no Idea how stressful this whole disaster is, espically since I have not seen my wife in 5 days, and my parents and grand parents HAVE LOST THIER HOMES. As of right now, we have almost NOTHING.

Please stop emailing me on this one.

I wrote the caption about the two people who 'found' the items. I believed in my opinion, that they did simply find them, and not 'looted' them in the definition of the word. The people were swimming in chest deep water, and there were other people in the water, both white and black. I looked for the best picture. there were a million items floating in the water - we were right near a grocery store that had 5+ feet of water in it. it had no doors. the water was moving, and the stuff was floating away. These people were not ducking into a store and busting down windows to get electronics. They picked up bread and cokes that were floating in the water. They would have floated away anyhow.

CNN WATCH: Anderson Cooper's "Race Realities"

CNN's Anderson Cooper is not only the host of his self-titled news broadcast, he is also the son of Gloria Vanderbilt (socialite and designer blue jeans magnate)  and an alumnus of the University of Hanoi, Vietnam (in addition to Yale).

02 September 2005's broadcast of "Anderson Cooper 360" from Waveland, Mississippi started out with a report from Rick Sanchez:

SANCHEZ: Congress has approved $10.5 billion in emergency funds for the stricken area. Leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus hailed the move while harshly criticizing the pace of the administration's response and expressing concern that the money would be put to the best use.

REP. CAROLYN KILPATRICK (D), MICHIGAN: I'm ashamed of America. I'm ashamed of our government. And as a member of the appropriation's committee, I want to make sure, yes, we should approve the $10.5 billion. But it's got to go right to the people.

We submit that Kilpatrick should stop her treasonous ranting and express outrage at how "her people" have behaved abominably in New Orleans.  She should be apologizing to victims of black hate crimes and apologizing to the rest of us for how they have embarrassed us in front of the international community.

Cooper kicks off the segment "Race Realities" with CNN correspondent Adaora Udoji:

UDOJI: Sixty-seven percent of New Orleans residents are black. Nearly 30 percent of the city's population lives below the poverty line without the money or the means to leave town despite dire warnings.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: If we could have got out, we would have. We need help.

UDOJI: But it has been the proverbial elephant in the room and until today only a few members of the media have described what every viewer can see.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Almost every person we've seen from the families stranded on their rooftops waiting to be rescued to the looters to the people holed up in the Superdome are black and poor.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The great majority of the people we're seeing suffering right now are black and they are poor.

UDOJI: The city's mayor hasn't mentioned race but he knows the federal government can be quick to respond to disasters. [Editor: wink-wink from Udoji -- ie, if the victims had been white they would have been there in a flash.]

The Liberal-left media, increasingly made up of ethnics with an entitlement attitude and their white enablers, have been ignoring the true proverbial elephant: that a white underclass is being racially targeted by black mobs. Udoji ends her piece with an interesting tidbit of racial solidarity from an unidentified black female:

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I'm calling for them to take care of Americans regardless of their color. Significant numbers of people in the gulf are African Americans and we stand here because we are concerned about them.

UDOJI: Adaora Udoji, CNN, New Orleans International Airport.

If a white American had said that they were concerned about the status of underclass whites and foreign white tourists in New Orleans and that 'we stand here concerned about our people', then all hell would have broken out. Cooper then gives the floor to camera-hungry Jesse Jackson, fresh back from his meet-and-greet with Venezuela's Chavez. 

REV. JESSE JACKSON, PRES., RAINBOW-PUSH COALITION: It [race] is at least a factor. Today I saw 5,000 African Americans on the I-10 causeway desperate, perishing, dehydrated, babies dying. It looked like Africans in the hull of a slave ship. It was so ugly and so obvious. Have we missed this catastrophe because of indifference and ineptitude or is it a combination of the both? And, certainly I think the issue of race as a factor will not go away from this equation.

COOPER: So, you're saying if the majority of these people in the Astrodome or in the shelters were white you say the evacuation, what, would be done faster, would be done better?

[Editor: Jackson avoids answering with a yes or no.]
JACKSON:

We have an amazing tolerance for black pain and for too long after our slave ships landed in New Orleans, you know, we tolerated in the name of God slavery for 246 years (INAUDIBLE) for another 100 years. We have great tolerance for black suffering and black marginalization.

And today those who are suffering the most, in fact, in New Orleans certainly are black people and I think what I think pains me today we got seven more busloads of people out of New Orleans. There were about 5,000 people. All of them were African American and no busses had been there until we got -- they were sent to (INAUDIBLE).

So, I said where are the busses? They said they're on the way. Across the street were 150 busses empty because they have no place to take them, so we have no place, no plan of rescue or relocation or relief for these people

1. First, the United States has an amazing tolerance for pain inflicted on the white middle class and even more so on the white underclass by ethnic minorities. 
2. Second, slavery has got nothing to do with Katrina.
3. Third, Jackson is a bigot who ignores that there are underclass whites trapped in New Orleans and are now facing a double burden of being storm-weary and now an unprotected target for hate crimes.
4. Finally, Jackson asks about the buses. Anyone who has seen the AP photo of hundreds of NO School District buses submerged underwater knows by now that Mayor Nagin had buses when he needed them most, before the storm.

Surprisingly, Cooper nails him with a key fact:

COOPER: Reverend Jackson, though -- Reverend Jackson, you call that indifference. Others might just call that incompetence and we've seen incompetence in plenty of places. I've seen bulldozers sitting around for hours at a time because no one told them what to do. I'm not sure that race played a role in those. Is that really fair to say? Isn't the leadership of New Orleans predominantly African American? Isn't the mayor of New Orleans African American? Isn't he primarily responsible for the safety and well-being of his people?

JACKSON: No, the mayor of New York did not cut the budget on building a stronger levee to protect the city from facing a flood in light of a storm. That infrastructure is not what mayors do.

Even the focus on looting and looting of course is unacceptable but a few blacks stealing some televisions is not why people are dehydrating and perishing and parching and can't get rescue, relief or relocation. And so why is it that we as Americans are getting less U.S. relief than there was U.N. relief for the tsunami? So, you explain it.

Jackson stumbles as he tries to absolve Nagin from any responsibility and then even tells Americans that we should not be looking at the 'few black looters'.  Unfortunately, their crimes were not limited to "stealing some televisions".  They unleashed a crime wave of rape and race crimes that is staggering to comprehend.

Of course, we didn't expect Cooper to actually challenge Jackson with the facts of hate crimes committed against whites.  He is mostly concerned with homosexual rights and his prized Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation award for his ABC report about "gay high school athlete Corey Johnson."
